The difference between a consumer and a customer, is a very thin line. Aside from both terms being used frequently in the field of business, these words are often used in a similar context, which adds up to the confusion.
By definition, a customer is someone who buys services or goods from someone else while a consumer is someone that consumes a certain product or commodity. In the concept of Economics, a consumer can either be a single person or an entire organization, that uses a certain type of service. Consumers can also be any form of organism, that devours or eats something, as in the field of Science and Ecology.
For example, a customer is best exemplified by a coffee shop, that buys a coffee maker, from a coffee maker manufacturer. This means that the restaurant buys the said equipment, for the benefit of its patrons or guests. In this connection, the restaurant is clearly pictured as a customer and not the actual consumer. However, in a similar scenario wherein you directly go to the coffee maker manufacturer and buy their product so that you can bring it home for your family’s use at home, then you are the real consumer.
Simply said, if you are going to use a particular product for purposes other than your own consumption, like for commercial usage, then you are considered a customer.
However, according to the Consumer Protection Act of India in 1986, the term, ‘consumer’ has a broader, meaning to include those who use a product or commodity for a living. And so, if you are the sole proprietor of your company and you purchased the coffee maker under your name, then you can still be considered a consumer according to this Act.
Furthermore, the Act expands the consumer definition even more by stating that a consumer does not need to buy products for personal usage to be considered as one, rather the mere thought or intent of buying already turns you into a consumer.

These definitions were actually drafted with the aim of consumer protection, especially when businesses turn a little bit sour.
  1. A consumer is someone who actually consumes the goods and not just purchases it.
  2. A costumer is someone who buys the goods for more commercial purposes.
  3. According to the 1986 Consumer Protections Act of India, a consumer can also be somebody who uses goods and services for a living. In addition, the mere intent of buying goods makes you a consumer, nonetheless.

The terms “wholesale” and “retail” themselves explain the difference. “Wholesale” means “selling in large quantities” and “retail” means “selling in small quantities.”
In wholesale, the goods are mainly sold to the retailer who sells it to the customers. A wholesaler might also sell the products directly to the customers.
One of the main differences between wholesale and retail is in the price of the goods. The wholesale price is always lower than the retail price. This is mainly because the retailer has to include many other costs while selling the goods. The retailer has to add costs like the salaries of employees, rents of shops, sales tax, and advertising of the goods that he buys from a wholesaler. A wholesaler does not worry much about all of these aspects which prompts him to sell goods at a lower price.
The wholesaler has direct links with the manufacturer and buys products or goods directly from him. On the other hand, a retailer has no direct contact with the manufacturer.
In choosing the quality, the retailer has an upper hand. A retailer can choose the products with quality and discard the damaged ones as they only buy small amounts. On the contrary, the wholesaler will not have a say in the quality as he has to buy in bulk from the manufacturer. This means that the retailer has the freedom to choose the products whereas the wholesaler does not have the freedom to choose the products.
It can also be seen that retailers have to spend more in maintaining the retail space as they have to attract the consumers. On the other hand, a wholesaler need not worry about the space as it is only the retailer who buys from him.
When comparing the profit margin, a wholesaler gets more profit than a retailer. But even then, a wholesaler gets more money as he sells in bulk. A retailer just sells only one product at a time.

The difference between a broker and a lender is that the lender provides money to the debtor, whereas a broker is an agent who offers the loan products provided by various investors.
There are two types of lenders, retail lenders and wholesale lenders. Those who commence with the loan process themselves are called retailer, and those who hire contractors or brokers are called wholesale lenders. A broker acts like a commercial agent who is hired by the lender, or works as a freelancer. His target is to find potential customers. His job description includes counseling, credit problems and processing the loan etc.
Large lenders have a network of both retail and wholesale lending, and they hire a number of brokers who offer the loan products to customers. A broker compiles the file of information in which there are details about credit reports and different verifications, such as employment, assets, appraisal and transactions. The file is handed over to the lender who funds money once it is complete.
Large banks and lenders are called portfolio lenders, and they are also referred to as depository institutions. Credit unions, commercial banks and savings, and union and loan associations are all portfolio lenders.
The lender funds directly, while the broker sells loans and represents different lenders. Despite the differences between the lender and broker, both of them are looking forward to making a profit, and they have hidden markup fees as well.
Brokers and lenders need to obtain a license before offering their services. It is necessary to avoid illegitimate brokers or lenders, as doing business with them is not recommended. Their credibility can be verified with the help of various organizations.
Lenders lend the money to a borrower to pay the loan off. The loan also includes the added cost of interest. Different lenders have rate differences, and also their mark ups or interest rates are not the same.
Brokers act as intermediaries or agents between a client and the lender, and a commission is usually earned upon completion. They handle the process of loan in a correct and legitimate manner.

Simple Interest vs Compound Interest
Interest rate is generally defined as the cost for borrowing money. It is stated in percentage and set against the original amount of the borrowed money or the principal. There are two types of interests. One is simple interest while the other is compound interest. If you are planning to borrow money or to invest in the money market, you should get a clear idea about the difference between simple and compound interest.
First of all, simple interest is computed based on the principal only or original amount of the borrowed money. Compound interest on the other hand is computed periodically. The computations include the earned interest from the principal plus the compounded interest earned over a period of time.
Simple interest is applied on loans for single periods such as 30 days or 60 days. So if you get a short term loan for 60 days, the interest will be computed based on the original principal only. For long term loans, lenders usually apply compound interest. The periods are pre-defined by the lender. These could be quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. With compound interest, the interest earned during the previous period will be added to the principal. This will become the new principal and it will earn an interest according to the terms agreed.
You have to note that the growth of interest with simple interest calculation is constant. That is why it is the preferred system for short-term loans. With compound interest, the growth is exponential because the principal is getting bigger each period. Compounding interest is the fastest way to accumulate wealth so this is the preferred system of lenders and investors.
Simple interest and compound interest are radically different from each other. The former is usually applied to short-term loans while the latter is used for long term loans and investments.

Megaupload, established on 2005, is a Hong Kong-based online company for uploading and downloading computer files over the internet. The company’s key person is Kim Schmitz, a popular German hacker, who has been convicted of computer fraud, embezzlement, and insider trading.
Basically, Megaupload is an internet company that provides file hosting services. It offers free services, which allow users to upload files of up to 2048 Mb of storage space. This free service does not allow users to download files over the file size of 1 Gb. 200 Gbs of file storage is given to free registered users.
Registered users for the free Megaupload service are provided with 200 Gbs of file storage, which is quite adequate for most people. For premium users (registered and paying clients), the file storage space offered by Megaupload is unlimited. For every successful upload of files, the user is given a URL to allow other people to download the file over the internet.
Files that are uploaded anonymously will expire after 21 days, when no downloads occur within that timeframe. However, for free accounts, it will take up to 90 days before uploaded files expire, and premium accounts users will certainly have the best deal, as there will be no expiration as long as the individual maintains the premium membership.
Over a year after Megaupload’s establishment, Rapidshare started to operate its own file hosting services. Rapidshare is the direct and fiercest competitor of Megaupload. It also has free and premium services available. Their free services naturally have limitations and restrictions. Rapidshare is operated from Switzerland, but the company is German-owned. It is led by Bobby Chang, as the company’s CEO and COO.
At the time of this writing, Rapidshare is still operating two websites ‘“ the “rapidshare.de” and “rapidshare.com”. The former, using the German top-level domain, is the original website and the latter is the new and improved website. The original website will permanently cease to operate on March 1, 2010. The files there won’t be available for download anymore by that time and all users that go to that site will be redirected to “rapidshare.com”.
The style of Megaupload and Rapidshare’s services is fairly similar, with few distinctive differences. Rapidshare has a download limit of 25 Gb at certain times, even for premium users. Rapidshare stated that the reason for this is to save traffic. Megaupload, on the other hand, does not implement such restrictions.
However, Rapidshare has more users, and therefore, more files available. It is even (Alexa) ranked way above Megaupload, where it’s ranked 30 against Megaupload’s 83. The debate of which is faster can go back and forth, as it can also be subjective.
Both companies provide download managers, and give very similar privileges to their paying clients.

The LCD television is a flat-panel television which utilizes a Liquid Crystal Display technology. It has two layers of glass which are polarized and stuck together. The liquid crystals are held in one of the layers. These liquid crystals pass, or block the light, to produce images on the screen when the electric current passes through it.
However, the crystals do not produce their own light. The light comes from the series of fluorescent lamps at the back of the screen. There are millions of shutters arranged in a grid, which open and close to release and trap some of the light that is not needed to create images. Then each shutter is paired with a colored filter which produces a sub-pixel. These are so small, that when they combine, they create a single pixel, which appears to be a single spot of color on the screen. With the help of the fluorescent lamps, the images created by the liquid crystals become visible to the viewer.
LCD television produces high image quality. They can be made very thin, which makes them less space-consuming, and the user can hang them anywhere. This makes them appealing to buyers.
LED TV’s are actually very much like LCD TV’s. They also have a flat-screen which utilizes Liquid Crystal Display technology. The only difference is their source of light, which is at the back of the screen. The LCD TV uses fluorescent lamps, and the LED TV uses LED (Light Emitting Diodes).
There are two types of LED backlighting. One is referred to as Edge lighting, and the other is called Full-Array lighting. With the Edge lighting, the series of diodes are arranged along the outside edges of the screen. When there is power, the light is distributed across the screen. Alternatively, in Full-Array lighting, there are several rows of diodes behind the entire surface of the screen. They provide more control over brightness and dimming, because the diodes can be turned on and off independently.
LED TV’s are LCD TV’s with a new backlight system. They are newly developed for LCD’s, because Light Emitting Diodes are said to give more balance in color saturation, and use less power than the fluorescent lamps. LED TV’s are the newest version, and that’s why they are currently more expensive than the standard LCD TV’s.

Taliban and al qaeda, the two terrorist organisations born out of Islamic roots, seem to be almost one and the same. Though the two talk of an Islamic world, there are much differences between the two.
While Mullah Mohammed Omar, who was an extremely enigmatic person, founded Taliban, the credit for al qaeda goes to Osama bin laden.
Al Qaeda consists of Sunni Muslims who practise Wahabism, which is considered to be the most extreme form of Islam. The al qaeda wants to establish Islamic rule and that all governments should be replaced by Islamic leaders.
The Taliban at first consisted of religious students who were very much conservative. They believed more in Sharia (Islamic law). The Taliban, dominated by people with Pashtun identity, controlled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Though ousted from power in 2001, they have embarked again, spreading terrorism around the world.
Coming to the etymology, both taliban and al qaeda are Arabic. The meaning of al qaeda is “base”. Taliban means talib that means “student.”

The origin of al qaeda can be traced to the writings of Sayyid Qutb, an Islamic thinker. The basic ideology of al qaeda is to establish an Islamic state, with focus on Sharia. They want to get rid of socialism and nationalism, which they consider as non-Muslim concepts. The Talibans’ extremist ideology is only an innovative form of Islam in combination with Pashtun tribal codes with Deobandi interpretations.
While the Taliban are restricted to a particular region, the al qaeda has no boundaries.
Coming to the origin Taliban, two stories have been told. One story is that Mullah Omar and his students were agitated after the rape and murder of boys and girls of a family who were travelling to Kandahar. Another version is that Pakistan based truck shipping mafia had sought the support of Taliban to clear the road across Afghan to Central Asian Republics of bandits.
Al qaeda is considered to have formed in 1988 after a meeting between Osama bin Laden, leaders of Egyptian Islamic Jihad and Abdullah Azzam.

The public, limited company (also known as LTD. company) as its name implies, is open compared to the private, limited company. The shareholders in this type of company vary since it is open for all interested parties Shareholders can start as low as seven members and can reach no limit or definite number.
The shareholders are limited in number, and they also serve on the Board of Directors.
The public character of this type of company makes the trading of shares easier. Shares can be freely traded on the stock exchange without discussion or permission from other or the majority shareholders. This is a testament to how the shares are open to everyone.
In order to start the transfer, there is an open invitation via an advertisement to the public. Since there are many shareholders and interested buyers in a free market, trading occurs frequently, and many shares change hands as well.
Records in the public, limited company are open to scrutiny by its shareholders. The shareholders elect the Board of Directors, but the majority shareholder serves almost as somewhat the owner of the company.

The iPhone has been the most sought after mobile phone with each release. And now with the 3Gs in the market its time to compare the two. Apple says that the added ‘S’ stands for speed and the 3Gs does seem to sport a lot of speed improvements over the 3G. At first glance, there is almost nothing different about the two. Apple has decided to retain the winning iPhone look while managing to squeeze the improvements in.
The 3Gs comes equipped with a 600Mhz ARM processor which is better than the 412Mhz processor of the 3G. This added processing power allows users to run applications without any noticeable lags or freezes. The radio has also been upgraded in the 3Gs. Where the 3G can only achieve 3.6mbps, the 3Gs can reach the maximum of speed offered by the HSDPA technology which is 7.2mbps. These blazing internet speeds mean faster browsing and downloads for 3Gs users who live in areas with HSDPA.
The camera in the 3Gs is also an improvement of the old camera of the 3G. It no has a 3 megapixel sensor instead of a 2.0 megapixel. Apple also added video recording support in the 3Gs, a feature that 3G owners sorely missed since most mobile phones already support video recording at the time of the iPhone.
On the software side, Apple added extra features to keep the customers happy. The first is OpenGL ES 2.0 support which is an improvement over the 1.1 version supported by the 3G. This means that the 3Gs can draw images better which give app developers an additional tool to work with. Voice control has also been added to the 3Gs, a feature that lets you control your iPhone with the sound of your voice. There is also a compass application that is supported with an embedded magnetic compass. This allows you to use your iPhone just like a compass in case you get lost.

One requirement of the new operating is better hardware because the 600Mhz processor and a mere 128MB of RAM, which is typical of most Blackberries and is installed in the Bold 9000 is not good enough to run the OS flawlessly. The Bold 9900 is equipped with a 1.2Ghz processor and 768MB of RAM, although may still be behind what other smartphones are packing, is a great leap from its predecessors.
The Bold 9900 also brings its camera into the bare minimum of what you’d expect in a smartphone; sporting a 5 megapixel sensor and is capable of geo-tagging, face detection, and much more. This is a great improvement to the plain Jane 2 megapixel camera on the Bold 9000. The Bold 9900 is also capable of recording 720p videos, not because of the camera but because of the more powerful processor. The Bold 9000 is capable of recording video but only at a much lower SD resolution.

The Bold 9900 is an excellent phone for RIM, not because it bests other smartphones but because it narrows that ever growing gap. It gives Blackberry users a little bit of what other smartphone users are getting while still maintaining the excellent email and messaging systems that is at the core of their service.

Of course, the main difference between the two is the operating system. Android is getting better all the time and offers a generally standard experience across different devices.
One area where the iPhone 4 clearly wins over the Galaxy Ace is in resolution. While the two phones have identically sized screens, the iPhone 4 has a 640×960 resolution. This is significantly more than the HVGA resolution that you get on the Galaxy Ace. Resolution is not really that significant with small devices and some people cannot really distinguish the difference. But, there are some people who really notice and appreciate the difference.
The cameras of the iPhone 4 and Galaxy Ace are seemingly the same as they both have 5 megapixel sensors. The difference between the two is quite clear when you delve into video recording. The iPhone 4 is able to record 720p, not the absolute highest but at par with what you’d expect a smartphone would have. In contrast, the Galaxy Ace can only record at QVGA resolution. This is very low even when compared to what most feature phones are capable of. The Galaxy Ace also lacks a front facing camera, which eliminates the possibility of video calling. The iPhone 4 does have a front facing camera but video calling is limited only to FaceTime when connected to a WiFi connection.
The Galaxy Ace is slightly thicker than the iPhone 4. Despite this, it still manages to shave some weight off; weighing almost 20% less than the iPhone 4. There’s not much difference in size though.

As a cheaper alternative to the iPhone 4, the Galaxy Ace is pretty much a good deal. Although it is quite lacking in some respects, it still gets the basic job done.

Difference Between Animal and Plant cells
Both plant and animal cells are eukaryotic cells, i.e., they have complex structures but the structures of both types of cells have major differences.
Animal cells do not have rigid cell walls like plant cells. This allows animal cells to form and adopt various shapes. A type of animal cell called the phagocytic cell can even absorb other structures. This ability is not inherent in plant cells.
Further, unlike animal cells, plant cells have chloroplasts for the utilization of sunlight and this is what also gives plant cells their green color. It is with the help of chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll, the plant cells perform the function of photosynthesis which is a process absent in animal cells.
Plant cells also contain a larger central vacuole (enclosed by a membrane) as compared to animal cells. Also, while animal cells depend on an analogous system of gap-junctions that allows communication between cells, the plant cells use linking pores in their cell wall to connect to each other and pass information.
Many types of plant cells, particularly in species like conifers and flowering plants, there is an absence of flagellae and centrioles that are found in animal cells.
Plant cells are also classified into three types. The parenchyma cells help in storage, photosynthesis-support and other functions and collenchyma cells are only present during the time of maturity and have only a primary wall. The sclerenchyma cells help in mechanical support. When it comes to animal cells, there are 210 distinct types of these in the human body.
There is another major difference between plant and animal cells. While the former turn carbon dioxide into sugar, it is the animal cells that break the sugar back down to carbon dioxide to make energy. This also reflects the cyclic functions of Nature and the interdependence of organisms through which Life on earth flourishes.

Although laptops and notebooks have very similar traits such as they are both portable and you can take them anywhere, there are some differences between both of them.

Converting electrical energy into mechanical energy always consumes a lot of power and creates heat as a byproduct. The moving parts also make hard drives susceptible to impact damage. SSDs do not suffer from these problems because it doesn’t have moving parts making it ideal for laptops and other mobile devices.
The speed at which data is read and written from the drive is a very significant factor for drives. In this aspect, the SSD also wins by a large margin since it acts just like the RAM in your computer. Data is readily written and read from an SSD unlike in a hard drive where the arm needs to be positioned to the right spot then wait for the platter to turn enough so that the arm can read the data.

The limiting factor in the general proliferation of SSDs at the moment is its price. SSDs are a lot more expensive compared to hard drives per gigabyte of storage, though the advantages are outweighing the cost in mobile devices like laptops. SSDs also suffer from a limited number of writes before a certain memory element fails. This is a trait shared by all flash based memory, although the specific number of writes before failure can vary from one device to another. Manufacturers combat this by a method called wear leveling, where they find the least often used portion of memory to write new data to. This allows the drive to survive a lot longer and the individual memory elements to fail at roughly the same time.

SATA, which stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, is the next step from PATA controllers used in the past. If your computer was bough no more than 5-7 years ago, chances are you already have SATA controllers and drives. After a few years, SATA was improved and gave rise to SATA II. The main difference between the two is speed as SATA II can achieve speeds of double to that of SATA; SATA has a maximum uncoded transfer rate of 150MB/s while SATA II has a maximum uncoded transfer rate of 300MB/s
Although SATA II is newer, it still retains backwards compatibility with older SATA controllers and drives. When upgrading your motherboard, hard drives, optical drives, or any other devices that use SATA, you can safely opt for a SATA II capable device without having to worry if it would work with your set-up. Just keep in mind that you need to have SATA II a SATA II controller, drive, and even cable to get it to work at SATA II speeds. If any of the three doesn’t conform, the link would revert to SATA for compatibility.
When upgrading your system from PATA to SATA, or even to SATA II, do not expect a significant improvement in performance. The limiting factor in today’s systems is not the link from the drive to the processor but the drive itself. The mechanical components inside a drive are much slower compared to electrical signals. Because of this, most hard drives can’t exceed the transfer rates of SATA. So, if you have typical hard drives, then SATA II would probably do little to nothing for you. But when it comes to newer technologies like Solid State Drives (SSD), SATA II becomes very advantageous. SSD drives have flash memory and no mechanical components. They are very silent, power efficient, and very fast; some are even exceeding SATA II capacities. Difference Between SATA and IDE Harddisk

From the beginning of the computer era, the storage medium has been constantly evolving. From the floppy disks to the hard disk, their capacity has grown exponentially over the last few decades. But with the ever increasing capacities, new technologies should also be invented to cope up with the need to transfer large quantities of data as quickly as possible. This quest has lead to the transformation from Parallel ATA (also known as IDE) to Serial ATA.
At first sight, you would not notice the difference between a PATA and a SATA disk. The main visual difference appears when you connect them to the motherboard. A PATA disk uses an 80 pin ribbon that is about 3-4 inches wide while the SATA disk uses a 7 pin cable that is less than an inch wide. This allowed for a cleaner cable arrangement inside the case.
The differences between the two don’t end there. SATA disks offer a huge difference in performance when transferring data. Even thhe earliest version of SATA had a maximum transfer rate of 150MB/secĂ‚  which is already ahead of the 133MB/sec transfer rate of the fastest PATA disk. Later versions of SATA disks can even achieve up to 300MB/sec. And soon, SATA3 disks would soon be available in the market; offering speeds of up to 600MB/sec. This alone has cemented the role of the SATA as the successor of PATA(IDE) disks in the desktop computer.
Aside from being substantially faster than the older PATA disks, SATA has features that are not found on the former. The Advanced Host Controller Interface utilized in SATA disks allows features like Native Command Queuing (NCQ) that improved the disks speed even more and the ability to connect a disk to an already running computer; this is called hotplug or hotswap technology and it isn’t found on the PATA disks. The hotplug feature of SATA disks also made it practical to allow external SATA disks to be connected just like Flash drives that utilize the USB port, turning the SATA disk into a high capacity portable drive. SATA disk can also be instantly configured into a RAID array if the motherboard supports it. Something that is not possible with PATA drives unless you have a specialized RAID card to handle it.

The shift from parallel to serial has proven to be a very advantageous one. Parallel disks are now beginning to slowly disappear in the market, making way for the faster performance and higher capacities of the SATA disk.

Difference Between UPS and Inverter
With our ever increasing reliance on electricity, it is quite annoying when outages in our power supply occur. To prevent getting interrupted in whatever we are doing, we have devices like inverters and the UPS. The main difference between the two is what their functions are. UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply and its main function is as a flywheel storage system that is able to provide power to a device when the power from the main lines goes out. In contrast, an inverter’s function is basically to convert DC power to AC. You get DC from power sources like batteries while AC is what we get from our wall sockets. The two are not compatible so we need to convert one to the other if supply is different from what the device needs.
A UPS is a complete system that is composed of many parts. The typical UPS devices that we can buy from stores have multiple systems that include batteries, a charge controller, circuitry for switching between the mains and back-up battery, and an inverter. An inverter is needed because the battery can only store DC power and you need to convert that back to AC in order to match what was being provided by the main power line. Still, there are UPS devices that provide power to a device that uses DC power; these UPS devices do not use an inverter.
Aside from supplying power to keep devices running, a UPS also does a lot more. One of its functions is to provide surge protection, thereby protecting connected devices from getting damaged. Other UPS devices are also capable of conditioning the power from the lines to provide clean and stable power throughout.
Inverters are commonly seen in alternative power installations like solar. Solar panels provide DC power, which is then used to charge a battery bank. The inverter then converts that stored power so that it can be used by ordinary home appliances. Inverters are also used to provide limited power from the cigarette lighter socket of cars. This can be used to charge a laptop, tablet, and other devices.

Whether you will need a UPS or an inverter is down to what you really need. If you just want temporary power to tide you over short outages, a UPS of sufficient size would serve you well. If you are into alternative power or you want extended power, an inverter may be fit for you.
