Top 10 Most Dangerous Roads in the World

Top 10 Most Dangerous Roads in the World

10. Grand Trunk Road (India)

Constructed by the Pashtun emperor Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century, India’s Grand Trunk Road (also known as GT) spans more than 1,500 miles from Bangladesh in the east to Pakistan in the west, serving as one of the main thoroughfares across the Indian subcontinent. Over the years, it has functioned both as a major trade route and as a convenient right-of-way for invading armies.
GT is considered dangerous not because of risky heights or disheartening road conditions, but because of the traffic congestion. Trucks, buses, bicycles, pedestrians, and animals have turned parts of this heavily-used road into a major headache. If you’re planning to drive here, you’ll want to be as alert as possible. 9. San Isidro de General – Cartago (Costa Rica)

The Pan-American Highway has plenty of dangerous stretches, but the old road that passes through the Costa Rican mountains to link San Isidro de General and Cartago is especially hazardous.
The high point in the pass is known as Cerro de la Muerte, or Mountain of Death – not technically because of the road, but because people traveling through the pass before the road existed often didn’t survive the cold journey. However, the name happens to be an apt descriptor for the road itself, which tests drivers with excessive potholes, steep, narrow curves, and plenty of fog. The road’s height (13,000 feet) can also cause altitude sickness, further impairing drivers.
In addition to these perils, you can also expect to deal with the imprudent habits of local bus and truck drivers, who tend to drive very aggressively and irresponsibly despite the unsafe conditions. Fortunately, a new paved road between Quepos and Dominical has recently been completed, which will give travelers an alternative to the Mountain of Death route.

Top 10 Worst Military Leaders in History

Top 10 Worst Military Leaders in History

10. (Tie)  Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, U.K.
bernard montgomery
Okay, not really a bad field commander. In fact, a pretty fair one. The only reason he’s on the list is that, like a British version of Macarthur, he too may be one of the most overrated commanders of World War II. While Monty is credited—and rightfully so—for his victory at El Alamein, Egypt in October of 1942, it must be remembered he was fighting an exhausted and over-extended German Afrika Korps that lacked significant air support and was running on fumes. The British and their allies, in contrast, massively outnumbered Rommel in almost every category, making victory—pending some remarkable chain of events—eventually inevitable. Unfortunately, unlike his predecessors, Monty choose not to follow up on his victory by pushing the Germans out of Africa immediately, waiting until May of 1943 to finally accomplish what should have been done months earlier. But Egypt wasn’t Monty’s real problem. That came later, first with the over-planned and under-executed landings in Sicily (Patton’s forces beat Monty’s British Army to Messina even though they had twice as far to go), followed by his dismal attempt to capture Caen, France on D-Day. (The city was not taken until July 18, 1944, six weeks after the initial landing.) Then there was Operation Markey Garden in September, 1944, the attempt to take three key bridges in Holland that would make a breakout into the Ruhr Valley possible. Great idea; just poorly implemented, the result being the surrender of 6,000 British paratroopers at Arnhem and  a temporary stalemate that was to last until that next spring. Monty had good intentions; it’s just that he tended to be too timid when aggressiveness was called for, and too aggressive when caution would have been more advisable.

10. (Tie) Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, Germany

Field Marshall Erwin Romme
This is easily my most controversial pick, and I do it with some reluctance only because of the esteem the “Desert Fox” is looked upon with today. In my defense, I do not maintain that Rommel was a bad General. In fact, considering the circumstances he had to deal with—lack of supplies, harsh conditions, being perpetually outnumbered—he did a remarkable job as arguably Germany’s most successful—or, at very least, most popular—general. Plus, the fact that he was implicated in the plot to kill Hitler—though pretty late in the game—makes him a hero to both sides. However, in terms of actual accomplishments, the man may not quite live up to his reputation. While an aggressive and capable commander, he tended to be abrasive, intolerant, unteachable and rash to the point of foolhardiness, which might be one of the reasons he was defeated by the British in North Africa not once, but twice (the first time at the hands of British General Auchinleck, the second time by Montgomery) and finally pushed off the continent. Afterwards given the task of securing the French coastline from allied invasion (the Atlantic Wall) he oversaw the construction of a formidable barrier of bunkers and gun emplacements that prevented the allies from taking the beaches at Normandy on June 6, 1944 for about half an hour or so, thereby demonstrating the futility of depending on fixed defenses to stop invasions (a lesson the Germans should have remembered from France’s futile efforts to hold the Maginot Line in 1940). Obviously, not all of this could be laid at Rommel’s doorstep as he did have to work under the limitations imposed upon him by der fuehrer, but when one considers his almost legendary reputation, it seems he should have been able to do more to stop the allied advance in France.

9. Admiral Gunichi Mikawa, Japan

Admiral Gunichi Mikawa
This is a case in which a successful commander enjoyed an overwhelming victory, only to almost immediately squander the priceless opportunity it afforded him. Admiral Mikawa was an up-and-coming Japanese admiral known for his intelligence and sound judgment when he assumed command of the Japanese 8th fleet at Rabaul in July of 1942. Just a month later, he was to lead this same fleet to one of Japan’s greatest naval victories of World War Two when, during the night of August 8-9, 1942, he slipped into the waters off Guadalcanal and sent four allied cruisers to the bottom in a little under one hour. In doing so, he left the Marines on Guadalcanal without sea protection and rendered the transports anchored off shore sitting ducks. However, just as complete victory—and the routing of the American forces on Guadalcanal—was all but imminent, the Admiral inexplicably broke off the attack and headed for home, thereby saving the U.S. Navy from further humiliation and destruction. Had the man shown a bit more aggressiveness and sank the hapless transports, very likely the U.S. would have been forced to evacuate the Solomon Islands and the war would have been extended by months or, possibly, as long as a year. Rightfully criticized by his superiors for his timely blunder, he was given increasingly smaller and more isolated commands throughout the remainder of the war until being forcefully retired by the Japanese Navy in June of 1945, three months before the war ended. Not a bad officer, but an officer with bad timing.

American mills begin producing their own jean. Laborers wear the durable clothing.

19th Century

San Francisco dry goods merchant Levi Strauss produces “waist overalls”—the early name for jeans. They become a hit with gold miners eager to strike it rich in California.
In 1886, Strauss adds a brown leather patch on the back of his waist overalls. The label, which shows a pair of jeans being pulled between two horses, is still affixed to Levi’s jeans.

20th Century

American men, eager to imitate movie stars such as John Wayne and Gary Cooper, who play rugged, waist-overalls-wearing cowboys in 1930s Hollywood Westerns, proudly don the pants.

1940

American troops pack their waist overalls when they travel overseas to fight in World War II. The trend catches on in Europe. Lee and Wrangler make their own jeans to compete with Levi’s.

Cut & Restored Currency

This is one of the most baffling dollar bill tricks ever! I first saw this cool illusion performed by Paul Zennon on one of his T.V specials.

It was an immediate crowd pleaser, peoples eyes stood out on storks and I have to admit it got me scratching my head too!

Cool Dollar Bill Tricks THE EFFECT: The magician displays two bank notes and shows them openly back and front for all to see.

The magician places them back to back, he/she then cuts through the centre of both notes with a pair of scissors - the notes are clearly seen to be cut into four halves. No mistaking that!

Without any suspicious moves, the magician instantly open both halves
to show the notes restored to their original condition, astonishing!

One of the coolest dollar bill tricks
You can let a spectator cut the notes!
Astonishing magic that is EASY to perform!
No tricky slight of hand needed
Can be viewed from any angle
- perform surrounded

THE SECRET: This is one of the greatest dollar bill tricks, it's an excellent ‘cut and restored’ illusion that is really effective when performed with real money. You can use play money, fake money, blank cheques or any form of printed paper about the size of regular currency.

So what's the secret right! Actually I can't tell you....Just kidding :-)
First you need some secret preparation.

amazing dollar bill tricks
Place two nearly new bills face
down on a table. Apply a thin
layer of rubber cement, about
half an inch wide, down the
centre of the back of each note.

When this is dry, add a second
coat of rubber cement and allow
that to dry also. (Pic 1) What's rubber cement? see TIP 1 HERE.

Next, sprinkle a little talcum powder (baby powder) on the cement covered area on each bill. Spread the powder over the entire surface of the cement with your finger or a soft brush.

You will notice the treated areas of both bills will not stick to each other because of the powdered surface. Put the bills in your wallet/purse or on the table and you are ready to perform this very clever close up effect!

THE METHOD: Begin by removing the two prepared notes from your wallet/purse and casually showing both sides of the notes. Place them back to back as shown in (Pic 2 & 3).

amazing dollar bill tricks, money tricks

We will call the note nearest you Note A and the one nearest the spectators Note B Square up both notes. Be sure that the cemented areas are touching each other.

money folding tricks

Hold both notes with the thumb and finger of your left hand as shown in (Pic 4). With your right hand holding the scissors, carefully cut through the center
of both notes.

Make sure that you cut within the areas covered by the cement stripes. Done openly and deliberately, there will be no question in the audiences mind that both bills have been cut in half - which they have! (Pic 5).

money folding tricks

Place the scissors aside. Grasp the halves on the right sides of the cut in your right hand (one half of Note A and one half of Note B) and the left side’s two halves (the other two halves of Note A and Note B) in your left hand.

With the thumb and fingers of both hands, separate the halves of the notes (Pic 6), and shake them open (Pic 7).

Because of the rubber cement, the halves in each hand will stick together at the cut edges giving the illusion that the four half notes have fused together to form two complete notes once again!

The reason this is one of the greatest dollar bill tricks in my mind is because the spectators see and hear the notes being cut, so it is that much more unbelievable when they are 'restored' people freak!

TIP 1: Depending where you live in the world rubber cement (a type of craft glue) can be easy or hard to get hold of. For example if you live in the US you're OK. Any hardware store should stock it.
For people in the UK and other countries good product is hard to find. I suggest eBay if you have any troubles. ------>

TIP 2: Done well, this ‘quickie’ is a real eyepopper! First practice with stage money or with newspaper cut to the size of bank notes. This way you will find out just how much rubber cement and talcum powder to apply. You can then try it with real notes.

TIP 3: The real notes should be new and crisp (maybe from a cash ‘ATM’ machine) and fit together neatly for pics 3 and 4.

TIP 4: Don’t worry about losing money when using real notes, as the halves can be stuck together with transparent sticky tape, just as with any torn notes.

TIP 5: The higher the currency value the bigger the effect becomes
be really brave and use £50 notes! (or equivalent).

TIP 6: As an alternative method you could let a spectator cut the notes just make sure you hold the notes tight and get them to cut in the centre (where the rubber cement is!)

This is one of the easiest dollar bill tricks to perform but remember to practice, practice, practice and have fun with it - it’s a great little illusion that never fails to amaze!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Amazing Coin Balance

THE EFFECT: First you take the coin and balance it upright on the fingers of your open palm - impressive enough i'm sure you'll agree, but suddenly with a wave of your hand, you get it to slowly and visibly drift backwards into your palm! Simply AMAZING!

Immediately hand out the coin for examination - there is nothing to find! You can repeat the trick straight away and even get a spectator to try to copy you at the same time - they will find it impossible!

Cool little bar or pub trick
Zero set up time - repeated immediately
1 minute to learn (but a little practice time needed)
One of the great easy coin tricks

easy coin trick
THE SECRET: What's the secret to one of the coolest easy coin tricks? A small sewing pin! This is what you secretly use to act as a stand to balance the coin against. It must be concealed before the trick, in the hand you are going to balance the coin. The pin needs to be placed between your forefinger and middle finger, pin head down. (pic 1)

coin blalance free magic trick
The head of the pin should be securely pinched between the knuckles where your fingers bend. (try not to prick yourself!)

In this position you can relax your hand in a natural way, palm facing towards your body so the pin can’t be seen. (pic 2)

THE METHOD: Ask to borrow a coin. (Any coin can be used but the bigger the better I find) For example borrow a two pence piece from a spectator. Take the coin and secretly balance it against the pin. It will look to the spectators as if the coin is balancing unsupported!

With the pin gripped between your knuckles gradually release your grip on the pin ever so slightly allowing the coin to slowly and visibly drift backwards under it’s own weight. (pic 3) Please note this bit can take some practice to get the knack, but is well worth the effort. Experiment with what works best for you! Practice in front of a mirror.

When the coin is flat on your palm (pic 4) you should find that the pin rests between your fingers in the crack. You can keep it hidden there and just hand back the coin for the spectator to have a go. Obviously they will not be able to repeat the trick. Alternatively you can let them examine the coin and of course they will find nothing!

If you are sat at a table you can casually drop the pin into your lap and spread your fingers showing your hands empty. If you want to perform again simply keep the pin in your hand and just secretly position it back into the gripped knuckle position (pic 2) and your set to go again.

If at any point you want to get rid of the pin to end the trick ‘clean’, when you have finished performing place the coin into your pocket with the pin as well. Then act as though you forgot it was the spectators coin and reach back into your pocket ‘apologizing’ and hand back the coin, leaving the pin in your pocket. Say something as a joke like “Sorry, I thought that was my tip!”

You will notice that I turn my hand and the coin to the side slightly so that you can almost see behind the coin. This is a good technique so that it looks like the coin is completely un-supported. You can do this too when performing, but make sure no spectator can see directly behind you. A little from the side is fine but from directly behind, they will see the pin.

Even though the secret to this trick is so simple the effect on the audience is amazing. People tent to think that the coin is gaffed in some way, until they examine it of course! That is why it is one of my favourate easy coin tricks!

 Killer Coin Vanish

free coin magic THE SECRET: There is such an easy secret to this free coin magic effect, however performed correctly no one will suspect a thing. Simply place a piece of double sided stick tape to the back of your hand.

As you pretend to squeeze the coin under the cover of your hands secretly slip the coin around the back of your hand onto the tape (pic 1). Immediately show your hands empty (pic 2).

free coin magic The real killer is when you are able to show both your hands completely empty front and back. Now this move must be done fast and practiced in front of a mirror so you do not flash the coin that is stuck to the back of your hand.

As you turn both hands round make sure your empty hand covers the back of the hand the coin is on (pic 3). If not your trick could well be exposed!

free coin magic TIP: Make sure you press the coin firmly onto the back of your hand otherwise when you show your hands empty front and back the fast motion may send the coin flying across the room!

To make the coin reappear simply reverse the actions you did to vanish the coin. Close the hand the the coin is stuck to the back of and make a fist, reach behind the hand and remove the coin.

Place the coin into your fist then remove it showing the coin has magically reappeared!

TIP: Make sure it looks as if the coin is coming from your fist and not behind the hand. This is important or it may reveal the secret.

After the effect you can dispose of the double sided tape at any moment onto the floor or in your pocket. You are then left completely clean. Have fun with this free coin magic trick, it is a reputation maker.
